Research Procedures
Choose a topic of interest.
Use the Big 6 Information Problem Solving & Research Method
BRAINSTORMING: What resources could you possibly use?
- Create a working bibliography of resources: books, magazines articles, internet sites, encyclopedia articles, information databases
- Evaluate the source
- Create an index card for each of the chosed sources
- Number the index cards
OUTLINING & NOTETAKING:
- Use standard outline form/mapping or whatever format you are comfortable with
- Take all notes on index cards or loose leaf
- Label each index card/loose leaf with the appropriate main/subheading
- Add facts in your own words
- Make sure you have a bibliography note card for each source you use
FIRST DRAFT:
- Use your notes to create and edit your first draft with
FINAL COPY:
- Type and proofread your final copy
- Remember to create a final "Works Cited" list of only those resources that you actually used.
- Recheck to see that you followed the Big6 steps
