History is not about the past. It is about people who lived in the present. Immigration
is a big part of America's history. Immigrants came to America with many hopes and
dreams. They arrived on both the East and West coasts of the United States. We are
going to investigate immigration into New York through Ellis Island from 1890-1920.
The journey did not end at Ellis Island; it just began. We will be experiencing
history "Through the Eyes of an Immigrant."
Through the process of a WebQuest, you will become actively involved in the immigration
process through Ellis Island. A WebQuest is a guided research activity that you
can access via the web. All the information resources needed to complete the tasks
have been gathered by your librarian and classroom teachers. You become an active
learner in this process. Through the eyes of an immigrant, you will recreate the
immigrant experiences. You will be using your knowledge of Social Studies, Language
Arts, Math, Science, Art, and Technology to explore and communicate your story.
As part of our quest, we will be traveling to the Ellis Island Museum. There we
will continue to gather information.
